General Insurance Code of Practice

The General Insurance Code of Practice (The Code) has been designed to raise the customer service standards in the Australian insurance industry and protects the rights of policyholders. It’s the general insurance industry’s promise to be open, fair and honest in the way it deals with all its customers.

The objectives of the Code are to:

  • promote better, more informed relations between insurers and their customers
  • improve consumer confidence in general insurance insurance industry
  • provide better mechanisms for the resolution of complaints and disputes between insurers and their customers
  • commit insurers and the professional they rely upon to higher standards of customer service
